Why do I do this to myself?

I am still awake and need to get up in half an hour... I just discovered an iPhone StumbleUpon app @_@ there is no hope for me now...

¥1,800 (£13) down the iTunes drain...

I just spent ¥1,800 on an album on iTunes (because I'm tired and really shouldn't still be awake) and only 2 of the songs are in Japanese (which wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't only listening to Japanese music) Oh well life goes on I suppose...

This was one of the Japanese songs BTW.

Pa pa pa poker face pa pa paaaaggghhhh shut up!!!

Well I can't sleep because I need to get up early and my brain is a bitch; it's decided to put Lady Gaga Poker Face on repeat... Anywho I decided to download and play Minecraft because Destructoid told me to and its free to play for a few days due to some technical reason. I played it for a few minutes and I don't understand @_@ I'll put this tutorial video that I can't be bothered to watch here and maybe I can work out how to play later.

Show me the Munny

I recently stared getting into custom toys and I got my self a few Kidrobot Munny's. These are the first two I customised. (I also have a few works in progress) The blue one is called Trapped Wind and the one with the CD in its brain is called DJ Slipcase. Bigger images can be seen on my deviantART.

Versailles

Takeshi Murakami, founder of the Superflat art movement (and one of my favourite artists), is having an exhabition at the Château de Versailles. This is amazing! His art clashes with the traditional décor so much and I love it. I have to go to France and see it!!!!

To celebrate here's a ridiculous, Japanese, rock opera, visual kei band who just happen to also be called Versailles. (Yes, all the members of the band are men, even the ones in dresses.)

Pink Tentacle

I was partaking in one of the most dangerous time wasting internet pastimes of Stumbling Upon , when I stumbled upon an amazing website called Pink Tentacle. Pink Tentacle is a blog focusing on Japanese art, design and generally interesting stuff; new and old. The vast collection of pictures and videos have to been seen and I recommend you take a look. For now heres a selection of what can be found over at Pink Tentacle.

I have been Vanquished...

Vanquish wasn't really a game I was paying much attention too. My main thought about the game was what a pity it is the dog in the concept above didn't make it into the final design. (You could use it as cover and it was going to have missiles...) My flatmates complaints about the cover systems that requires the player to press X however, prompted me to download the demo. I actually really enjoyed it cover system and all. I particularly enjoyed the slip and slide action that allows you to wizz all over the place at the touch of a button. There's certainly enough going on on screen to satisfy my ever shortening attention span. Vanquish is also by the same developers behind Bayonetta and MadWorld, both games I'm quite fond of, so it must be good... Right?

"Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good."*

My recent adventure into the literary land of books has taken me though the pages of Jake Adelstein's Tokyo Vice. I first discovered Jake Adelstein via his contribution to to the Yakuza 3 reveiw, reveiwed by three Yakuza, on BoingBoing. When I was in a REAL LIFE book shop (not a common occurrence for me) and saw a book by the same guy I had to buy it.

Tokyo Vice is about Adelstein's life working as a reporter for the Yomuri Shinbun (a Japanese news paper) reporting on the disturbing underworld of Japanese organised crime. Adelstein's detailed accounts and great pacing make for a gripping and fascinating read. Adelstein has certainly lead a fascinating life, at times reading the book I almost forgot it wasn't a work of fiction. If you like crime, or reporters, or Japanese culture (and don't mind reading about the seedier side, no cute cartoons or origami here) then I definitely recommend you check this book out.

*The quote in the title of this post is from the book and refers to being good at things, not "good" in a morality sense.

Armed to the teeth...

I hadn't actually heard of NeverDead before a few minutes ago but I just saw this Image over at Kotaku and the game has already been sold to me...

...Ooo and I found this trailer on Gametrailers and although it seems a bit campy I'm still very interested. I suppose there's just something intriguing about detachable limbs and bad comedy.

A Brief Update.

BTW I'm long back from Tokyo and 16 lessons into my Japanese course, I've also started reading books. I'll blog about all those things at some point I've been a bit busy with moving house and things. For now just shit down and enjoy this informational video...

Pokemon sprout the seeds of life...

I pre-ordered the Japanese version of Pokemon White which comes out on the 18th. I now have no money but Pokemon is more important than food. I just have to make the all important decision... Do I choose the snooty lizard thing or the pig whatsit... (I'm not choosing the otter.)

OMG! Phantasy Star!!!!!1111111!!!1111!!!! (Ok I'm not that excited...)

I've been browsing the news from Tokyo Games Show and there are quite a few games that are sparking my interest (I may make a few posts about them later.) One game in particular that caught my eye while browsing Destructoid was Phantasy Star Online 2. I had Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II back on the Gamecube and although I never actually took the experience online I quite enjoyed it. I did however play Phantasy Star Universe online but wasn't very impressed. I think I'll keep this one on my radar and hope it has the same charm as gamecube version.
